It has been a couple of crazy days here in Atlanta due to the snow, but I am proud to say that not only did I survive Snowpocalypse but I was even able to get an outdoor run in. The trick in enjoying your outdoor run in cold weather is to wear the proper attire. Below are some tips:
1: Wear moisture wicking clothes. In cold weather avoid wearing anything made of cotton given the fact that this type of fabric does not evaporate sweat fast enough, causing your clothing to become cold and wet which can result in hypothermia.
2. Running tights: These are great for cool weather as they keep your body temperature pretty even due to their compression.
3. Wind-resistant pants: When the weather is too chilly or windy and running tights alone won’t do, you can either place this on top of the tights or get ones with a lining.
4. Hat and gloves: Because our bodies heat our extremities last, it is important to keep them covered to prevent frostbite.
5. Dress in layers: This is particularly important in a long-distance race as you can take off layers to avoid overheating.
