It is officially mid-January and a great time to go over your New Year’s resolutions to see how you are performing. Like most people, one of my New Year’s resolution was to become more fit and to exercise more often. However, between the Polar Vortex and a packed schedule, I have found it increasingly difficult to fit in my workouts.
With a couple of half-marathons quickly approaching, every day is critical in my training. Even though it takes months to build endurance, speed, and strength, it only takes a couple of “off” weeks to make you feel like you are starting from zero. Because I know how little I have been running, I figured that the best way to train would be to start as a beginner and build from that base.
For those readers who are either in the same situation or have never trained for anything before, I will be sharing weekly training plans that will take you from zero to hero. Fitness tips, targeted exercises, and workout reviews, will also be made available. I will be following the same training schedule and will be responding to any questions and comments you may have on a regular basis.
One thing to keep in mind is that everyone was once a beginner at something and it takes time (and persistence) to reach a goal. Whatever your goal may be, from running a 5K to just fitting better in your clothes, I hope you find this information helpful. As a disclaimer, in order to help avoid serious illness or injury, or if you have certain medical conditions, it is recommended that you consult a physician before beginning an exercise program. Listen to your body and remember that this is a lifelong journey, a way of life. Start easy and pace yourself to avoid burning out. Most importantly, enjoy it! living healthy becomes ingrained in you with time.
